30 Years of Manufacturing Without Borders

30 Years of Manufacturing Without Borders

As VistaTek celebrates 30 years in business, I've spent some time reflecting on where this journey has taken us.

When my father started the company, I don't think either of us imagined that our voice would one day reach audiences around the world. What began as a small manufacturing company in Minnesota eventually led to opportunities to contribute to trade magazines, speak at conferences, participate on industry panels, and deliver keynote presentations to audiences spanning five continents.

It has been an incredible honor to share our passion for American manufacturing and innovation with people from all corners of the globe.

Along the way, we've discussed everything from 3D printing and additive manufacturing to high-volume production, UV-inhibitive polycarbonate applications, and TUV-certified home compostable materials. The technologies have evolved dramatically, but one thing has remained remarkably consistent.

People everywhere love to create.

Whether you're in Germany, China, Australia, Israel, the United States, or anywhere in between, there is something universal about the desire to build, solve problems, and bring ideas to life. Manufacturing may involve machines, materials, and processes, but at its heart it has always been about people.

Over the years, our message has been shared in conference halls, convention centers, customer facilities, and more than a few bars, taverns, and local watering holes. Some of the best conversations about innovation never happened on a stage. They happened over a meal, a beverage, or a late-night discussion with fellow manufacturers trying to solve similar challenges.

What I have learned is that innovation rarely happens in isolation. Success requires collaboration, strategy, execution, and persistence. Great products are rarely the work of a single individual. They are the result of teams willing to work together toward a common goal.

That is where the pride comes from. Not simply in making things, but in being a creator.

For VistaTek, manufacturing in the United States has also made us more worldly. Global manufacturing is our playing field. To compete effectively, we have always believed we need to look beyond our own borders. We need to understand what is happening across oceans, where the headwinds are blowing, and where opportunities are emerging.

My father put it simply from the very beginning. "Son, if manufacturing was easy, everyone would be doing it." Thirty years later, I appreciate that advice more than ever.

There have been challenges, setbacks, and defeats. Manufacturing has a way of testing your patience and your resolve. But the rewards have always outweighed the struggles.

I've shared a taxi ride with a driver in Frankfurt who seemed determined to redefine the meaning of speed. I've stood with my hand on the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem reflecting on history, faith, and perspective. I've eaten chicken feet in China and discovered that you can eat Kangaroo in Australia.

Along the way, my palate has been tested, and my patience has been stretched. But every experience reinforced a lesson that transcends geography and culture.

The people who make things are remarkably alike. They are problem solvers. They are optimists. They are builders. They are creators.

And whether they are producing aerospace components, medical devices, garden pots, consumer products, or industrial equipment, they take pride in turning ideas into reality. That shared passion is what has made these last 30 years so rewarding.

As we celebrate this milestone, we are grateful for every customer, vendor, employee, partner, and fellow manufacturer who has been part of the journey. The technologies will continue to evolve. Markets will change. New challenges will emerge.

But the pursuit of excellence through manufacturing remains unchanged. For VistaTek, that pursuit has always been worth the trip.
