Surprise OSHA Visit!

Surprise OSHA Visit!

When the words "OSHA is here" are heard, it’s enough to make anyone's heart skip a beat. Our company was randomly selected for a visit from the federal OSHA list, and the local Minnesota OSHA representative came for a thorough inspection. The visit lasted five hours and included interviews with five different employees, followed by a closing meeting. After all of this, only three minor findings were identified that we needed to address:

  • The pizza oven in the employee breakroom had a two-prong plug instead of a three-prong plug.
  • We had a few extension cords plugged into surge protectors, which violated safety guidelines (commonly referred to as a “Daisy Chain”).
  • One of our three dock door sensors was frozen and needed to be replaced.

As a business owner reflecting on this five-hour visit from OSHA, I couldn’t be prouder of our team and safety committee. The auditor thoroughly reviewed SDS sheets, fire extinguisher records, forklift training logs, container labeling, hoist maintenance logs, AWARE training documents, our racking systems, and more. Having just these three items to correct speaks volumes about the commitment our employees have to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment. Our production team is dedicated to keeping the production floor clean and safe. These small details are what help us continually improve.
