30 Years Is a Long Time, So We’re Telling the Story One Chapter at a Time
In 2026, VistaTek turns 30 years old.
That’s three decades of technology shifts, economic swings, cultural changes, and business evolution. If we tried to capture everything that’s happened since 1996 in a single blog post, we’d either miss the good parts or lose you halfway through.
So instead, we’re doing something more intentional.
We’re breaking the story into smaller, more relatable chapters, because the last 30 years weren’t one big moment. They were thousands of little ones.
A Quick Look Back (Just to Set the Stage)
When VistaTek was founded in 1996, the world looked very different:
- A gallon of milk cost just over $2
- Gas was often under $1.50 per gallon
- Buying a home in White Bear Lake felt far more attainable than it does today
- Data moved slowly, sometimes literally carried from place to place on disks
Fast forward to today, and everyday life tells a different story:
- Milk prices have climbed
- Gas prices have fluctuated wildly over the years
- Home values in White Bear Lake have more than doubled
- Data now moves instantly, securely, and globally, often without us even noticing
These changes aren’t just economic trivia. They reflect how fast the world has moved and how businesses have had to adapt to survive and grow.
Why One Post Isn’t Enough
The truth is, the most interesting part of the last 30 years isn’t just what changed. It’s how people adapted to that change.
Technology didn’t evolve overnight.
Business challenges didn’t appear all at once.
Customer needs didn’t stay the same.
Trying to fit all of that into one timeline does a disservice to the real stories, the ones that feel familiar, surprising, and meaningful.
So instead of rushing through 30 years in one sitting, we’re slowing things down.
What’s Coming Next
Over the coming months, we’ll be sharing a series of short posts and content pieces that explore:
- How data transfer evolved from dial-up to always-on connectivity
- What “IT support” meant in the 1990s versus today
- How security expectations changed as technology became more connected
- How local businesses, including ours, adapted to rapid change
- How lessons from the past continue to shape the future
Each post will focus on one slice of the story, making it easier to connect the dots and maybe even spark a little nostalgia along the way.
The Big Picture
VistaTek’s 30th anniversary isn’t just about celebrating longevity. It’s about recognizing the ability to learn, adapt, and evolve year after year, change after change.
This first post is just the beginning.
Thanks for being part of the journey so far, and keep an eye out for the next chapter.
